Info for entrants

Entrants' pack

Many thanks for entering the race. We've now sent out over 250 envelopes to entrants containing race numbers, race day info leaflet—please read carefully, a sponsorship form—should you wish to raise sponsorship for the east Surrey branch of the Alzheimer's Society (but you're in no way obliged to do so), baggage labels and safety pins for attaching your race number to your top. There will be spare labels and pins available on race day. If there are any problems before race day please email us and we'll try to deal with them.

If you would like electronic copies of the race day info leaflet and sponsorship form click here as appropriate.

Race day!

If you have received your race number through the post, there is nothing more for you to do on race day than to go to the start line with your number pinned to your front and be ready to run! You don't need to register at Race HQ.

Start time

The race will start at 10.30am on Sunday, 2nd October 2011 on Limpsfield Common, just south of the A25. We suggest you arrive in good time to listen to the pre-race talk at the start line.

Start location / Race HQ

The start is on a bridleway 100m south of the clubhouse of Limpsfield Chart Golf Club, Westerham Road, Oxted, Surrey, RH8 0SL. The golf club is situated on the south side of the A25, across the road from Race HQ/toilet facilities within Limpsfield Church of England Infant School. The HQ is in the school hall where food and hot drinks can be purchased.

Parking

If you are travelling by car please use the main race car park, which is situated off the north side of the A25 Oxted-Westerham Road, a few hundred metres east of the Race HQ and start/finish area. It will be signposted from the main road. There is only limited space in this car park; further street parking is available in the surrounding roads but please allow sufficient time for a short walk.

Travelling by train

There is a regular train service to Oxted on the London Victoria to East Grinstead and Uckfield line. Please check the Southern Railway website for any announcements about weekend engineering works.

Changing facilities and bag storage

Because of limited changing facilities and toilets at the Race HQ you are asked to come already changed. Please note this course will be muddy in places especially if it has been raining so a change of dry clothes is advised. A baggage van will be available at the start to store your bags while you take part in the race. You are advised not to leave valuables.

Baggage labels have been sent out with your race numbers to enable you to identify your belongings. More labels will be available on the day of the race.

Race Numbers

Please use the pins provided to pin your race number to your shirt at the corners. Please ensure your number is clearly visible; this is particularly important at the finish line when times and positions will be recorded. A supply of pins will also be available at registration.

Your race number should not be used by anyone else. If you do want to transfer your number to another runner before race day, please email the Race Secretary to obtain his agreement. Swapping numbers without notifying the Race Secretary can lead to lots of problems in processing the race results, which inconveniences everyone.

The Course

The course is a single-lap 10 kilometre route following public footpaths and bridleways and private paths and tracks over land mostly owned by the Titsey Estate or National Trust. It is almost entirely off-road. The exceptions are two lane crossings and a stretch of 100m when you run along a quiet country lane; these points will be marshalled. More information about the course is available on this website here. Trail shoes or studded cross-country shoes are recommended, but not spikes. If the weather has not been too wet and the course isn't too muddy it is possible to run it in ordinary running shoes, but don't wear brand new shoes unless you are prepared to see them getting dirty! There will be kilometre signs from the 1st to 9th kilometre points.

The course is not suitable for people in wheelchairs or who are pushing wheeled vehicles.

Runners must not be accompanied by dogs, on or off a lead, during the race.

Water

There will be water stations at 4.5km, 6km and the finish.

Course closure

Marshals will remain in place until 12.15pm. Course markers will remain in place for some time longer.

Your safety on the course

Oxted Runners will do all that it reasonably can to ensure the safety of runners but the club will not be held responsible for any injury you sustain whilst running this race.

What to do in the case of injury

If during the race you become ill or suffer an injury that means you cannot proceed with the race please report to the nearest marshal or race official, or failing that ask a fellow runner to do so. A mobile team from St John Ambulance will be available to provide First Aid.

Results

The race results will be published as soon as possible on this website.

Cancellation

We obviously hope it won't happen, but should the race be cancelled for any reason we will announce this on this website as soon as possible. We regret that no refunds will be given in the event of a cancellation.

Race licence

The race has been approved by UK Athletics as a race that will be held under its Rules for Competition and operated in accordance with its Licence Requirements. The UKA licence number is 2010-101057. The race referee will be Brian Vandervilt, UKA county licence officer for Surrey. Brian will adjudicate on any issues or disputes arising from the race.
