About our charity
This race is run in support of the Alzheimer's Society and the services that they operate in Surrey.
Currently in Surrey there are seven centres which all offer a variety of services including day centre places, outreach workers, home support and carer support groups. All these services provide an essential and valuable support for local people who have dementia or who are caring for someone who is living with dementia. Statutory funding does not cover the cost of these services and in order to maintain and eventually increase the level of services available, money raised by the Titsey Trail 10K is absolutely essential.
Our local Alzheimer's Society service is at The Byre, Bletchingley, which runs a day centre for people with dementia and home support services. Both give valuable respite for carers, and your money will help to ensure this and others continue. With 1 in 3 people over 65 dying with a form of dementia and with currently 14,790 people in Surrey who have dementia (figures supplied by Surrey PCT for 2010) we must do all we can.
Following last year's race Oxted Runners were pleased to be able to present a cheque for £5,777.34 to the charity. The photo above shows Lyn Watson and Anita Avery of the Alzheimer's Society receiving the cheque from race director Maddy Lee-Smith at the club's base at Limpsfield Lawn Tennis Club on 23 November 2010. In response, Lyn said:
"It was such a magnificent achievement by everyone concerned that the event was such a success. So on behalf of people with dementia and their carers I'd like to say a massive thank-you to Oxted Runners and to everyone who took part in the race."
Thank you for your continuing valued support in 2011.
